Calming the Storm
24 x 18, Acrylic on Canvas, James
Bennett, 2019
-
This painting is the first really
abstract
image
in this series.
-
My intent is to convey a feeling,
an
impression, rather than present a
realistic image.
-
The paint at the top was applied heavily
and forcefully with a palette knife.
-
The driving rain and violence of the
storm were indicated
by scraping with the sharp edge
of the knife.
-
The paint covering the
bottom half of this work was applied and
smoothed with a soft, sable brush.
-
There is a strong contrast between
the impression
of violent action at the top and soft,
peacefulness at the bottom.
